This 611in Macro Adoption Collaboration Agreement (Agreement) clarifies the roles, rights, and responsibilities of the parties interested in joining the BIMe Initiative Macro Adoption Project (Project). By signing this document, the signatories agree to collaborate towards developing and delivering a Macro Assessment (Study) within a defined market, country, state, or region, (Defined Market) in accordance with the BIMe Initiative General Principles (Principles) and the sponsorship guidance provided in the 901in Sponsorship Guide (Sponsorship Guide) and the 903in Macro Adoption Sponsorship Addendum (Sponsorship Addendum).
The BIMe Initiative Macro Adoption Project is a collaborative research effort led by Dr. Bilal Succar, Prof. Mohamad Kassem, Assistant Prof. Eduardo Toledo Santos, Assistant Prof. Danny Murguia, and Dr. Cristiane Ramos Magalhães. The project relies on the active participation of associations, universities, and other institutions (Organisations) that share the Project Objectives, agree to the Privacy Policy, and sign this Agreement.
Study types
This Agreement covers the collaborative delivery of complementary Macro Adoption Study Types:
- Type 1: Macro Assessment - Policy Environment [PE];
- Type 2: Macro Assessment - Education Landscape [EL]; and
- Type 3: Macro Assessment - Organisational Adoption [OA].
The Agreement Summary below clarifies the names of Study Coordinators, the number and types of Studies to be conducted, the duration of study activities, and the responsibilities of each party.

Party 2: Name of organisation (Abrv) represented by Names of individuals (Study Coordinator).
Together, the above named are the Parties to this Agreement.
Regions covered by the Study
The Study will cover Defined Region (Defined Region).
Start date and duration of the Agreement
The Study will start on Start Date (Start Date) for a total of Defined Duration (Defined Duration) which is defined as part of this Agreement.
Agreement Particulars
This Agreement includes the following particulars:
- Purpose of the Study
The objective of this study is to perform a Macro Assessment - Type 1, 2, and/or 3 of the Defined Region. Unless all Study Types are conducted with Party 2, the remainder of Study Types may be conducted with other Collaborating Partners within the Defined Region.
- Study design
The Study Coordinator will gather evidence in the Defined Region using an Assessment Tool provided by Party 1. To ensure the reliability and validity of the responses, the Study Coordinator shall conduct the study under the Study Protocol designed by Party 1, and shown in Annex 1. The Study Protocol describes the following areas:
- Study participant profile: describes the attributes of participants (e.g. affiliation, roles) that can take part in the Study;
- Data collection method: describes the steps applicable to the Study to ensure the reliability and validity of responses;
- Validation of answers (wherever applicable): some questions must provide some Level of Evidence (e.g. website, policy documents, etc.). The Study Coordinator needs to verify these responses before conducting an analysis;
- Production of the Study Report
The Study will be launched through one or more Assessment Campaigns (Campaigns), a compilation of Registration Forms and discrete Assessments tailored for each Study Type. The specifics of each Campaign will be detailed by Team Member 1 prior to conducting any assessment activities.
- Quality Control
The Study will be subject to quality controls set by Party 1 to ensure Rigour in applying the study design; the Reliability of data collected; and the Visual Quality of analysis charts and Assessment Reports.
- Communication Protocols
Both parties will need to use the communication form (e-mail, Whatsapp, etc.) agreed at the start of the project.
- Inviting Third Parties
The inclusion of additional individuals or organisations not named in this Agreement will need to be agreed upon by both Parties. This excludes individuals and organisations that are employed by the parties to complete an agreed task (e.g. a Graphic Designer to work on the Study Report).
- Publication of Study Results
- Each party can openly share the data collected as part of the Study provided the sharing party adequately acknowledges the participation of the other party. This includes sharing data within News Release and on Social Media, as static data charts, or as interactive dashboards.
- Party 1 is allowed under this Agreement to use the data collected by this study to publish academic peer-reviewed papers and open-access BIMe Initiative documents. Party 2 will require the approval of Party 1 before publishing any academic papers that include the data collected as part of this Agreement.
- For-fee Use of Study Results
Except in educational settings at not-for-profit institutions, any fee-generating usage of the data collected as part of this Agreement is prohibited unless covered by a separate agreement between the Parties.
- Rights
- This Agreement does not entail any transfer of background Intellectual Property (IP) between collaborating Parties
- Each party agrees to protect the Intellectual Rights of the other party
- Each party agrees to protect the Moral Rights of the other party
- Each party agrees not to infringe on the Copyrights of the other party
- Party 2 will not conduct a similar study covering a similar topic with a different collaborating partner within 3 years of signing the Agreement. This will apply irrespective of the results.
- The results of this Study will be released through open channels under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License (more info).
- Unless otherwise agreed, both Parties will publish the results of conducted studies simultaneously through the open channels.
- Data Management
Both Parties agree that all data collection, storage, and sharing activities must comply with applicable laws and regulations within the Defined Market.
9. Withdrawal
- Party 2 can withdraw from this Agreement at any time provided they do not independently publish information collected as part of this Agreement, or collect macro adoption data using third-party methods and tools for three years after the withdrawal from this Agreement.
- Party 1 can withdraw from this Agreement if Party 2 has not met its obligations under this and related agreements.
- Warranty
Party 1 does not provide any warranty, expressed or implied, of the fitness of the Study for any particular purpose other than those expressed in this Agreement. Party 1 does not assume any legal liability or responsibility for any data collected in the Study.
- Responsibilities
Each party has specific responsibilities under this Agreement:
- Party 1 is responsible for:
- Making the assessment platform /surveys available to Party 2
- Making the data collected through the studies available to Party 2
- Approving the Study Report
- Party 2 is responsible for:
- Revising that translations are correct and all definitions are contextually correct
- Vetting study participants based on the participant profile
- Collecting data according to the “Study Protocol” designed for this study
- Analysing the study data and identifying convergence/divergence of results and/or lack of evidence
- Actively assisting in publishing and in disseminating the Study results
- Translating the report into the local language of the Defined Region
